Steam, as the majority of the gaming community would know, is an immense library that houses thousands upon thousands of games from big companies to individual indie developers. Cube World

Cube World is a voxel-based action RPG (akin to Minecraft) that is developed and released by Picroma. This title may, in fact, sound familiar to some people, as it is actually something of a second version of the original game with the same name. In typical RPG fashion, you get to choose a class for your own customized character, such as a Warrior, Ranger, Mage, or Rogue. The focus of the game, however, is mainly on non-linear, open-world exploration. The controls feel pretty good, even though it is still using a much older engine compared to games nowadays, and you will have an almost infinite number of things to do from crafting gears and potions, to taming animals and exploring dungeons.

Trove

Trove is also voxel-based, but it is much more of an MMORPG than the previous title. Developed and published by gamigo US Inc., this game has its focus set towards exploring dungeons and fighting powerful enemies, as you would in the raids of a typical MMORPG. Choose from a creative selection of classes, such as a Dracolyte, or a “Pirate-with-a-parrot”, and hit the dungeons with a group of other players online. Of course, you can also build your own house to serve as a base, and there is also the opportunity to build entire worlds with others.

On My Own

The third entry to this list is On My Own, which is available on the iOS App Store. It is essentially an open-world survival game where you are thrust into the wilderness with practically nothing. The key to survival is to manage what scarce resources you have and craft tools that will increase your chance of survival. The visual style for this game is pretty appealing in our opinion, and it gives off a very chill vibe of living in nature. Something to highlight is there are actually up to 4 different areas, or biome levels, each with their own distinct environment for you to explore.

Voxel Tycoon

Moving on, we have Voxel Tycoon which is a management simulation game set in a voxel-based world. As you would have guessed, this is a game about setting up your own business of mining and gathering resources, building factories to process them, and creating thriving cities. There is an incredible amount of things to do in this game given that the world that you spawn in is pretty much infinitely generating procedurally in the background as you play. From hot, desolate deserts to icy arctic tundras, you will be open to a wide spectrum of possibilities as you figure out how you want to expand your empire.

CastleMiner Z

Last, but not least, we bring you CastleMiner Z. It is an online co-op open-world survival horror game developed and published by DigitalDNA Games LLC. What’s interesting about this game is that you and your friends will be in almost constant peril as zombies, and even dragons will be out for blood, and you will need to build forts and craft weapons to defend yourselves. There are a few different game modes to try out, each with their own goals and conditions which make them intriguing in their own way.
