Why Free Play in Roblox Is More Important Than You Think
The ability to build things or environments and play with or within them has always been one of the major selling points of the Roblox platform.
Unbeknownst to many, the activity taken as simply nothing more but entertainment, or a hobbyist retreat has actual benefits for the child or person engaging in it. Let’s have a short discussion about this.
The idea of sandbox gaming goes way back before the advent of the home computer or PC. Kids normally used to play outside or busied themselves indoors with (mostly) creative toys. After all, the idea of building something to keep their minds busy as well as create a spark with their creativity and imagination was considered good if not beneficial to their overall growth.
It is said that learning is a lifelong process and as these kids grew up, it was likely if not expected of them to continue with their creative and imaginative activities which by this time were mostly applied to real life. Regardless, the kind of “Free Play” creativity and make believe, and pretend imagination which kids are very much known for have usually (no doubt) contributed certain benefits to their lives.
Prefrontal Cortex
When one engages in an activity that lets one build anything and do anything within a positive and non-harmful framework like the Roblox, and just to be fair, Minecraft platforms, a person or child is able to exercise the basic functions of the human brain’s “Prefrontal Cortex”. This is the part of the brain that controls the decision-making process and the drive to fulfill it. Also known as the executive Function (EF), it is what controls a person’s will and drive to act and achieve results from one’s own steam. Tapping into this mental function and making the most of it is what has led to the long and infinite history of human development.
Building and Talking to Others
Build platforms like Roblox are not only games for kids but life simulations as well. There are 3 basic things that a player can do in Roblox, build, play, and talk to others. These are exactly the things that kids do on a playground or even in a class learning activity, and studies show that a child fully engaged and aware of the environment is better equipped to handle and react to it as he/she grow up. This also sets a trend in the person as many children who grew up building things or engaging in creative activities usually end up as the people who continue to modernize and make living a way much for the human race.
Engaging in Free Play in a controlled environment (as an actual simulation or a game) gives the person training or added experience in the following activities. Problem-solving, developing and maintaining goals, dealing with conflict, dealing with risks and mistakes, and controlling one’s behavior, feelings, and discipline among other things. These activities if one is a child will train one to be able to adjust and adapt to real life in the coming years. For a grownup, this will continue to strengthen past experiences and know-how learned and continue to use these mental processes to their full potential.
The Potentials of Free Play
The Roblox platform environment with its gazillion of games to choose from, play, and explore is one of the best current-day simulated activities a child or person can engage in. Even grown-ups can benefit from the free play available in Roblox. The mind is filled with imagination and this characteristic of our mental process can be put to a lot of good use when used in a constructive and positive way. Roblox continues to need more experiences that teach as well as entertain and the younger of minds are always curious and inquisitive to try anything new out. As long as Roblox developers direct their creations in a constructively positive way, the potential of free play in Roblox will continue to exceed.
