Last year, Sony expressed its doubts about Roblox in PlayStation’s child-dominant gaming crowd. The gaming community has wondered if that stance has changed. Is there a possibility of Roblox finally getting an announcement of a coming PlayStation release?

You must have read the rumors and leaks from multiple articles about talks on getting Roblox to PlayStation platforms. This has been going around since early 2022. A number of gaming articles have shown PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan having doubts about bringing Roblox to the platform. What he said to investors in 2022 is often quoted as:

“Historically, because of the large number of children that play on the PlayStation, we have been very careful with regards to opening them up to anything that could potentially exploit them…”

This was ended with a somewhat hopeful tone:

“Over the last couple of years, however, we have reviewed those policies and relaxed a little on this. We have been conservative for too long, and now we are currently engaging with people at Roblox. We hope that the situation will change.”

More than a year has passed, and still no Roblox on PlayStation. Plenty of workarounds are being introduced to add the famous game to the consoles. So far, what we are getting is a sudden surge of articles reviving the hype. Maybe it’s about time to bring this discussion back to the fore. The question is pretty much the same since last year: why should Roblox be on PlayStation, and what’s in it for you?

There is little doubt that Roblox has one of the most active, if not the busiest, user base of any game at present. In 2023, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney states that Roblox has around 250 million active monthly users: more than Minecraft’s (100 million) and Fortnite’s (70 million) player bases combined. The 17 and older crowd is getting a major boost in numbers with these gamers making up 38% of the community. That part of the population is rising, and there are no signs of it slowing down soon.

If you’re into creating Experiences, getting Roblox on PlayStation products means you’ll need one less platform to use when making your next potential big hit. Creating and publishing aren’t slowed down because you’re using a controller to manipulate assets and edit the game world. Cross out the need to buy a new machine strictly for Roblox. You can get the job done with your trusty home console. Coding might be another topic, but what’s stopping you from connecting a keyboard to enter characters in the Developer Console? PlayStation 4 and 5 systems have keyboard and mouse support.

You can play Roblox with a controller just as well as you can using your keyboard and mouse or a touchscreen. Most controls for playing an Experience are almost intuitive. All the basic actions plus moving around are learned as simple as trying each button out. You’re pretty much well-set for gaming in a few minutes of trying it out. Some of the more complex games allow button mapping to adjust the gameplay according to the best layout you’re most comfortable with. If kids on mobile devices find little trouble getting around, then you with a controller won’t have too much fuss about it. In case that doesn’t work out, then swap that joystick with a keyboard and mouse.

Having Roblox on PlayStation devices is definitely a win if you’re big into interactive games with plenty of worlds and even more players. It’s also a win on Sony’s end if they can capture a fraction of that Robux-spending customer base.
