Fortnite and Roblox are two different games that share lots of similarities and are always compared with each other. Let’s take a look at some of their key differences:

You’ve probably heard that Fortnite and Roblox are two sides of the same coin. In various gaming circles, they’ve been closely compared with each other. Some people even say that Fortnite is the “Roblox” of the battle royale genre.

If you’re someone looking to dive into any of these popular games or a parent trying to decide if they’re ok for your kids to play, we’ve got you covered. Let’s look at some key differences between Fortnite and Roblox and learn more about both games.

Battle royale vs. game and world creation

Fortnite is primarily a battle royale game, meaning there’s a lot of action, shooting, and building battles (although there’s already a no-build mode). However, outside of its BR mode, it has special attention to world and game-building features. Users can create worlds and games using Fortnite’s robust creative mode, utilizing the game’s countless assets. You can build your version of Tilted Towers or Salted Springs if you’d like.

Meanwhile, Roblox focuses on game and world creation. The community (and yourself if you want to) creates worlds and varying experiences. For example, there are servers where you can live a digital life in a fictional city or even go on quests to take on evil overlords. Some users even go as far as creating a battle royale server.

Audiences and age appropriateness

Fornite, although a battle royale game with lots of violence, is relatively tame. There’s no blood or gore, and when characters die, they just de-materialize like in sci-fi movies. Roblox is trickier; the game is geared toward kids, but some user-generated games and content might not be age-appropriate. Not all games available are safe for kids below 13, and parents must check the privacy settings beforehand and teach their kids how to be safe online.

Moreover, since both are online games, you can’t discount the possibility of rotten eggs floating around and making what would otherwise be a safe space toxic.

Content: Pop culture vs. user-generated worlds

Most of Roblox’s content is user-generated, although it has had a few commercial partnerships in the past. Users and content creators are responsible for the worlds they create. You can safely say most servers in Roblox are products of the game’s dedicated fans. Because of this, the experiences are more varied and richer, compared to Fortnite, which focuses mostly on action and shooting. In Roblox, you can quickly dive into racing, fighting, simulation, and shooting games populated by countless players. Though you can do so in Fortnite, most players usually only play the battle royale mode.

Meanwhile, Fortnite’s content is richer and more lucrative. A good example would be its rich pop culture characters and avatars available. You can purchase Marvel and DC skins like Spider-Man, Captain America, Superman, and Batman. Meanwhile, anime franchises like My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan have also made their way into the game. It’s also noteworthy that Fortnite devs constantly change its maps and mechanics, unlike Roblox, where the community takes charge.

So, which game is best for you?

Well, there’s a lot to consider, but if you want something more age-appropriate and varied, it’s best to set your eyes on Roblox instead. It offers countless games and experiences and a massive community to boot.
