The Dark Side of Roblox – What Players Should Know

Believe it or not Roblox has problems, really big problems, and these may tilt the scales in favor of its foremost competitors if the company cannot address and deal with it in a timely manner. The platform’s main customers are the children and if Roblox continues to tolerate and even perpetuate their abuse, maybe Roblox is no longer the online haven for them to go.

Roblox is no doubt one of the topmost online gaming sites today. On average, 200,000 players log into Roblox monthly, of which the majority are children aged 9-12. Indeed, the Roblox platform was primarily designed for kids to supposedly have a safe and creative gamespot to go to, and for the rest of the world to have a friendly social media and gaming site to unwind and make friends. Sadly, many of these priorities have changed through the years as Roblox progressed into a multi-billion dollar concern. Today, Roblox is no longer the safe platform it was touted to be, and many cases of child gamers (and even adults) getting abused in one form or another on the platform are getting to be quite popular. Roblox has a very dangerous side, one that the company has to address if it aims for Roblox to continue on with its popularity and growth in the years to come. With that, let us take a quick view into the dark side of Roblox:

Hate Users

These are people who spread hate within and outside Roblox with their hate speech and actions focused mainly on the platform, its popular users (Like Albertsstuff/Flamingo), and the entire Roblox Community in general. These users have been banned and some have made public apologies through the years.

Bot Accounts

Roblox has existing accounts that are not organic (not people) but AI-controlled and programmed to do specific tasks within the platform. The most notorious kind of bots running around Roblox is the Messagebot. Many of these bots spam messages all over the platform like links to shady and scam websites. Children have been found to be very vulnerable to these. Bots are also used to fool users into thinking that certain games are populated when they are actually lacking in visits. Roblox countered the problem by introducing Captcha verification for account log-ins though there were problems too with this solution.

Game Thieves

These are Roblox users who steal the games developed (or being developed) by legitimate Roblox developers (many of whom are kids) and pass them off as their own. One of the most notorious cases of these was that of user “jaredvaldez4” who copied and plagiarized several of the most popular games on Roblox. With this, he was able to earn around 7.2 million Robux from the efforts of others earning him about 18,000 USD from it all. As a result, he was banned from the platform and had to publicly apologize lest face a lawsuit from the company.

Scamming Extensions

Some Roblox extensions and tools have been found to be engaged in illegal activities targeted at Roblox gamers and users. One of the most devastating cases of these was the hacked Google Searchblox extension. Initially, it was used to find Roblox players in whichever server they were able to log into so their friends could join them.

However, in 2022, it was updated and the update contained a hack. What it did was steal both Robux and items from the user by using the account to purchase items and transfer account items to a secret account. This was discovered and Roblox banned Searchblox and had to reimburse the items and Robux stolen from its users.

Inappropriate Content in Roblox

Roblox itself violated some of its own policies like online dating and Romance, and letting children have access to adult content. With so many complaints, Roblox had to establish the 18+ content and adult rating and separate it from those accessible by children. Many of these experiences introduced violent blood and gore, sexual themes and undertones, sickening scenes and gameplay, and everything and anything the very young should never be exposed to.

Hacked Games

Again, there are really unscrupulous users who hack games in order to scam other users in one way or another. Usually, the victims are of course the kids, and the perpetrators get away with it until they are discovered. Some simply target the game itself for personal reasons like revenge or for simply the sadistic pleasure of causing grief to others.
